Here the river flows through a narrow slot in the canyon to spill out and create a large, pebble-bottomed pool, where the water is deep and shockingly clear. An easy beach-like entry at one side means it’s friendly for kids, too. People jump off rocks, duck-dive for crawdads, and float on inflatable rings (an essential item for any river or gorge). The apple of our eye, no pool in Big Sur is quite as glorious as this one.
